Introducing, The MADash …

Posted in Franchise on April 24, 2014

Ashley Mol’s infectious smile and funky hairstyle are as much a part of her as her burning desire to achieve success. Growing up, she lived and breathed sports. At school, her season never ended; she was on every team. In hockey, she was “the girl” on the boy’s team until switching to women’s hockey in high school. Her sport of choice however, was always soccer, and her passion for this particular game earned her the reputation of an elite athlete.

Her long time soccer coach once described her as a “down-to-earth kid, but on the field, she’s one of the fiercest competitors.” Ashley will tell you it’s the best compliment ever paid her.

She has no problem talking about her team that won 2 Ontario Cups and earned a silver medal in one of 2 trips to the Canadian Nationals, but if you ask her about winning the top scorer award and MVP of the Ontario Youth Soccer League as a sixteen year old, she smiles and says “I was the center-forward; everyone counted on me to score. I really didn’t count my goals.”

That same coach also described Ashley as “a highly skilled, extremely dedicated soccer player and the ultimate competitor.” Ashley will tell you only, that she was a “pretty good passer.” Her resume confirms that, good, was good enough to play with the Provincial U17 team, good enough to train with the Canadian National program, good enough to play in the Ontario Women’s Soccer League, and good enough for a NCAA Division 1 Athletic Scholarship with Niagara University.

After University, Ashley furthered her education at Fanshawe College graduating as a Personal Trainer with a Certificate in Fitness and Health Promotion. She immediately began managing an all-woman gym, but settling into a career at age 23 did not seem like the right game plan for someone who had been active her whole life.

So she called a few good friends and backpacked across Australia for a year. On returning to Canada, she moved to Calgary and took a detour from athletics to try on another aspect of her personality. None of her friends were really surprised when she became a licensed hairstylist and began working in a trendy downtown salon. A few years later she returned to Ontario, and is now proud to call the vibrant city of Burlington her home.

Ashley continued to work as a stylist, but something was missing – something vital. Excited about what her brother Brandon and his partner Kirk were creating down in Charlotte, she planned a visit to see what all the buzz was about in person. One workout at MADabolic Inc. convinced her that it was time to get back into the fitness industry – but she would keep the funky hair. With a strong focus in strength and conditioning, driving her daily workouts, she updated her certifications and added a few new ones. She ran boot camps and spin classes, and used yoga and running to balance her routine. She was back in action again, back at being Ashley again, and loving every minute of it.

She headed back down to Charlotte with a few questions for her big brother on how to grow this passion into a career. When she walked through the doors of MADabolic CLT, the last missing piece fell into place and all her questions were answered. Brandon barely got the words, “We’re thinking of bringing MADabolic Inc. to Canada” out of his mouth, when Ashley jumped in and said. “I’m your girl. Let’s do this.”
