Our next Decade of MADness feature is Liz Richardson. Liz has been a member since October 31, 2011, MADabolic’s first day in business. She played high school tennis and soccer and then dabbled in yoga and triathlons before finding MADabolic. Liz recalls falling in love with the program from her first class and has seen significant changes in her strength and confidence over the last decade of consistent training.
“Back in the day, we had key chain scan tags, and my member number was 18,” she recalled. “It’s pretty incredible that I have been attending three-to-four times per week for an entire decade, and I’m still excited to come back for more.”
Liz is an architect, and her work schedule can be demanding. She values that MADabolic commits to providing an efficient 50-minute class and the intentional variation and structure behind the training over weeks and months. “Every class still intimidates me just enough to give me something to chase down,” said Liz. “At the start of every workout, I’m not sure I’m going to make it, but every day I walk out of the building with a sense of accomplishment and hit the parking lot feeling proud. I love chasing that feeling.”
Liz shared that the confidence that MADabolic has built within her is one of the most significant changes she’s seen in herself over the last decade. “My thoughts of ‘I’m not sure I have any business being here’ started to shift to ‘I want to be one of the strongest people in class,’” shared Liz. “MAD facilitated the mindset shift that has left me very proud of my commitment over the last decade.” This mindset has helped her learn to love some of the exercises she initially found overwhelming and difficult, like the overhead plate carry. And this mindset shift has helped Liz stay diligent and dedicated in her endeavors outside of the gym, too. She believes that effort and attitude start in the early morning at the gym and filter through the rest of the day.
As far as the changes she’s seen in MADabolic over the last decade, Liz is most impressed by what has not changed. “The programming has stayed tight and creative, yet purposeful. The brand has evolved but has stayed very true to the original roots established a decade ago.”
Congratulations, Liz, on all that you have accomplished over your Decade of MADness. Thanks for sticking with us for the long haul. And here’s to many more Decades of MADness to come!
