Evan Lindsay, owner of MADabolic Asheville, may be a relatively new MADabolic franchise owner, but he’s no stranger to the fitness world. Since retiring from his professional hockey career, Evan has spent the last decade in gym ownership and fitness consulting. In February 2021, he took over ownership of the existing MADabolic Asheville location in a remote capacity. He has since been busy working to support his on-the-ground team, which includes a General Manager and three additional trainers.

When it comes to the fitness industry, Evan has seen it all. In his work as a consultant, he has had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest brands on the market. Evan shared the top three things that stood out about the MADabolic brand as he took on this opportunity:

Culture.
“The vibe of the team and the comradery at all levels of the business really drew me in. The MADabolic brand has a way of attracting and retaining people who have the same underlying passion and drive. I see this within our member base; in Jane, our General Manager, and the rest of our training staff; and among other franchisees and in our franchisor partners.”

Authenticity.
“Companies and individuals are often driven by fear to try to be everything to everyone. This happens a lot in the fitness space, but you can really only progress if you are willing to polarize. MADabolic’s locked door policy really solidified for me that this is a company that’s willing to take a stand and hold paying members to a high standard, and it instantly made me respect the brand.”

Simplicity.
“A lot of fitness concepts feel the need to dress things up and make their program more complex than it needs to be. MADabolic’s product is distilled into something simple and elegant, yet it’s highly effective. This is truly unique to see in the industry.”

While Evan is based remotely, he feels highly connected with his investment. In large part, this is due to the relationships he has developed with the team in Asheville. He plays a key role in helping establish systems and setting weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals for his team. The most rewarding part of his journey has been seeing the passion the staff brings into the studio. “It’s been great to see Jane and the rest of our coaching staff truly grow and come into their own. The team is always looking for ways to improve and always asking great questions. They each bring their own personality into their work, and they do an excellent job of executing the day-to-day,” shared Evan. “It’s a great partnership, and I’m pleased to see them each have the opportunity to grow.”

Evan also brings a unique perspective to the franchise experience from his work consulting in the industry. He enjoys the expertise the MADabolic franchising team offers and the balanced nature of the brand’s approach to supporting legacy franchisees in their markets in addition to growing the brand. “I appreciate having access to a team of leaders who are true industry experts yet also understand the human element to the business. The franchise experience essentially mirrors what you see on the training floor. The team that is involved on the franchise side of the business upholds the same type of elegant simplicity and strong culture when it comes to the franchisee partnership.”

He believes in the system so much that he’s taking on partial ownership of the Greeneville, South Carolina studio as well. “When you combine a good product with good people who share your aspirations, you can truly build something big together,” he shared of his passion for continuing his involvement in the MADabolic brand.

2021 has been a big year for MADabolic with no slowing down in sight. The brand will close out the fourth quarter with six new studio openings. The new locations include Charlottesville (VA), Nashville (TN), Stamford (CT), Alexandria (VA), Dupont Circle (DC), and Silver Lake (TX). The brand continues to seek qualified franchise prospects.
