From membership at the MADabolic flagship in Charlotte to one of MADabolic Brooklyn’s earliest Founding Members, Taylor Abelman is an embodiment of the #MADlifestyle. MAD Brooklyn owner, Brian Rekuc, speaks highly of his OG member: “Taylor jumped right into MAD’s weekly protocol with a clear focus on consistency and moving better. Not only is she one of the kindest people you’ll meet on our training floor, but her work ethic and coachability make her a joy to have in class for our trainers and clients alike.” Let’s get to know Taylor a little better in this month’s Member Spotlight!
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your fitness background:
A: I was honestly the least athletic person growing up and quit every sport I tried (oops). In college I started taking group fitness classes and felt so empowered through exercise and I never looked back!
Q: How long have you been a member at MADabolic?
A: I have been a member at MAD Brooklyn since their opening! I also took classes in Charlotte before moving to Brooklyn.
Q: What drew you in to take your first class?
A: Many of my friends in CLT took class, and then when MAD Brooklyn opened right in my neighborhood I was so excited to get back into a routine!
Q: What is your favorite thing about MADabolic?
A: Having a place to zone out and feel mentally and physically strong (and having the excuse to punch something).
Q: What interval is your favorite (M.A.D) and why?
A: Momentum- it is always nice to pace yourself and be more mindful in class.
Q: What are your favorite and least favorite movements?
A: I love a squat, and my least favorite is hands down anything I have to do for 5 min during a Durability day
Q: What has been your biggest accomplishment since starting MADabolic?
A: being able to do real push ups!
Q: What’s your favorite way to stay active on your off days?
A: Living in New York makes it easy to keep moving by walking everywhere- I will occasionally go to y7 yoga as well!
Q: What’s one fun fact about you that not many people know?
A: I have lived in 8 states! (Which is not fun when you are moving as an awkward teen)
Q: What advice would you give someone who is hesitant to take their first class at MADabolic?
A: Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, and remember that everyone is focused on themselves and not you being a newbie!
